Sometimes I think I’m making stops at churches on these tours just to learn more about the saints. The church we visited on Tuesday, May 30 was named in honor of St. Viator. Not only did I get to learn about this saint I discovered that there is an entire community of Viatorians. The name "Viator", in Latin, means preacher. Viator was a lector or catechist at the cathedral of Lyons, and was held in high esteem by the then bishop and the faithful. Viator made a decision to follow his bishop and mentor, Justus to Egypt to live as a hermit. Both died at the monastery of Scetes, present-day Wadi El Natrun. The Viatorians have a special love for the Word of God, as it is read, interiorized, shared, and celebrated. This Word is the real basis of their spiritual life. They use the Word as the source for a lively interest in liturgical life and the Holy Eucharist. In it, they find the source of accomplishment for their personal relationship with the Lord and of their communion with the People of God. They celebrate the Eucharist daily and foster a special devotion to the Blessed Sacrament. Their charism and spirituality is centered on the Viatorian Community motto, “Adored and Loved be Jesus”.Read More
